Millard Athletic Association Power Division Baseball

In 2007, MAA set out to create a new level of baseball which would provide a home to ball players who were looking to take their game and baseball experience to the next level.

It was our belief that MAA was missing a mid-level division that would produce teams to compete at the USSSA A and AA levels.

The spring of 2008 marked the inaugural season of the Power Division in MAA. We at MAA Baseball were very excited to bring this new division to our Association and the baseball region. Our teams were very competitive on the field and by the end of the first season there was no doubt that the Power Division was a hit and was here to stay.

Entering our 5th season, MAA has strategically grown it's Power Division and has worked to expand the division and level of play to other associations throughout the metro area.

Player Tryouts

When players accept an offer to join a Power Division team, the commitment is expected to be for one season. The season ends with the team's final game, which is most often at the Nebraska State Tournament or at a World Series or similar post season event. Coaches may make roster changes prior to the end of their posted season if in best interest of their team with guidance from MAA.

At the discretion of the coach, players may be invited back to the team for the following season without going through the try-out process.  In some instances players may be asked to participate in the try-out process where they could be selected by their previous team or another Power Division team.

Tryouts are held in July of each year for teams who have been selected for the following season.  This may include returning or new teams under the guidance of returning or new coaches.

Tryouts will provide players to showcase their skills in hitting, base running, fielding, and throwing as well as specialized skills for those who pitch and/or catch.

It is important for players to come to tryouts ready to participate at their maximum performance levels as the coaches have only a short time and a minimum number of repetitions to evaluate the players skills, talent, effort, and ability.

Players need to arrive ahead of the scheduled start time in order to register and warm-up.  Upon registering, players will be assigned a number, which is how they'll be identified throughout the tryout process.

Tryout information including dates, times, and locations is posted at www.millardathletics.com in the weeks leading up to the tryouts.

Coach Selection

Each year the MAA Baseball Committee Board, under the direction of the Baseball Vice President and Power Director(s), conducts a review of all coaches and teams currently participating within the Power Division.

Current coaches are reviewed based on several factors, including but not limited to, player development, on-field performance, representation of MAA values and overall team success.  Coaches are asked to provide detailed responses to a list of questions as part of the review process.

In late May - early June of each year, prospective coaches are invited to submit applications to coach a Power Division team for the following season.  This process may include providing information on coaching and baseball experience, philosophies and knowledge as well as thoughts and/or preferences on prospective team member make-up.

By early July current coaches are informed if they'll be retained as a Power Division coach for the following season and offers are made to prospective coaches who have been selected to join the Power Division.

Player Selection Process

Prior to Power Division tryouts, coaches are informed of the order teams will make picks for the Player Selection Process.

MAA Baseball will set the order with the intent of allowing the teams to be competitive at their assigned classification level as deemed by the governing body.

In most instances, teams with the highest classification will make their PSP picks first. Within each classification, teams will be given picks based on the number of players needed to fill their roster up to standard roster size of 12 players.

At the completion of the Player Selection Process, coaches will be given the names and contact information of the players they have selected.  Within the next 24-48 hours coaches will make contact to the players families and make offers to join their team.
