MAA GOSL Season Begins...

4/30/12: The Heat opened up their GOSL games with a double header Monday night at Keystone fields with their first game against the Ralston Roadrunners.  The Heat won the game 8-3 behind a solid pitching performance by Taylor C.  She went the distance sticking out 5, and walking 3.  At the plate, Addy A, Clare R., led the heat with some timely hits tonight to get some runs in early in the game.  Solid baserunning and patience at the plate resulted in the Heat scoring 5 times in the 1st.

The Heat dropped their second game  of the evening to the Keystone Cobras.  Offensively, they just couldn't get the bats going, scoring only 1 run late in the game.  Taylor S. took the loss in her pitching effort as she showed glimpses of being overpowering however, struggled with her control tonight. Taylor C. came in to strike out the last 2 hitters to end a long 4th inning that put the nail in the coffin for the Heat.    In both games, the defense showed improvement, as they limited their mental mistakes to almost none, and as the season goes on, the physical errors in the field will become less and less which will help get the Heat off the field and back to the plate to get their swings in.  Not a bad start, and they'll have pleanty of games to work out the kinks...starting on Saturday, they'll begin play in the Quakes Classic, and byt the time Monday night is over, they'll have played 7 games in 3 days.  Get your rest Heat...get your rest.

4/23/2012:  The Heat opened up the Sizzle Spring Thaw with a loss to the hosting Sizzle 10's, with a final score of 11-1.  Not much to celebrate from this game, other than the girls didn't make many mental errors, which is going to pay off in the long run!

Game #2, however, was a breakthrough for the Heat, as they showed that they could come back from a early deficit, by beating the Sizzle 9's 19-9.  Meg R. got her first start of the season and pitched a solid effort, really settleing in after a shakey defense let in some early runs to give the Sizzle a 7-0 lead after the 1st half inning.  But the Heat came roaring back, as they put up 9 runs in their half of the inning.  They go on to win with a solid long 4th inning, putting up 10 runs, and highlighted by some offensive attacks from Addy (3 hits, 3 RBI's), Jada (3 hits, 3 RBI's), Taylor S. (2 hits, 1 RBI, 1 BB), Jaiden B ( 2 hits, 1BB), Meg (2 hits, 2 RBI's), Lexi had a solid single and scored twice, and Jadyn had 3BB.  The bats came alive in that game.

Game #3:  Vs. Elkhorn Slammers...

The Heat won their 4th game of the season with some timely hits, and a very solid pitching effort from Taylor S. (1-1).  Offensively, Jadyn H, scored all three time she was on base, and Taylor S, had a timely single to bting in the first runs of the game by belting a shot to left to score 2.  Meg, Lexi, and Jada all had solid showing at the plate, by recording solid singles to contribute to the 7-1 win over the Slammers.  The game was high-lighted by the pitching performance of Taylor S.  Taylor definately had her game face on as she went right after the Slammer's with her best stuff this season so far.  In 3 innings of work, she recorded 8 strikeouts, and 2 walks.  At one point, striking out 5 straight Slammers.  Overall, this game was a great confidence boost for the girls as they were really hitting their stride this afternoon.

Game #4: vs. Echoes Fear

Even though the game show's it was 10-0 after the last out was recorded, it was actually a more interested in game then the score indicated.  Without a 4 run 3rd inning, the Heat are well within striking distance to win this game, however, the bats just coldn't get going in this early morning matchup with, what could be becoming a nice little rivalry, between the Heat and the Echoes.  Taylor C. pitched a solid game, striking out 8, while walking 7, however, without the support of the offense, the effort went to the wayside.  Until we meet again Echoes.  : )

Game #5:  You could tell the young Heat team was feeling the fatigue of having their 5th game of the weekend to wrap up the tourney, Taylor S. got the start on the mound, but just couldn't muster up the command she had the previous day, and after going through all our pitchers for this last game, the Quakes, registered about a 9.0 on the richtor scale as they blasted the ball all over the field, winning by a final score of 19-1.   bright spot of this game, was we made some nice defensive plays, the girls were getting in their correct positions to be able to make some nice plays, and Taylor C. kept us from being shutout by stealing home as the pitcher fell asleep on the mound for a split second, giving us our lone run of the game.  With the Quakes being in the MOSL with us this season, we'll be seeing them pleanty more times to get our revenge.  : )

Echoes Early Bird Tourney News...

4/16/2012:  The Heat made a great showing in the Echoes Early Bird Round Robin Tournament, going 2 wins and 1 loss... The Heat started out the tourney with a decisive win over the Sizzle 9's, with a score of 14-2.  The win was high-lighted by a great pitching effort from Taylor Cooper, pitched 3 innings, with 6 walks, and 7 strikeouts.  She really battled all game and showed the Heat she is ready to take on that "ace" role!  The game started out offensively with Jadyn Hunt, hitting a hot shot to short, and advancing all the way to 3rd on an overthrow.  The hit parade just kept on coming, everyone was taking good cuts and making contact and putting the ball in play.  After the rains came and turned everyone home, the Heat came back the next day to face the Sizzle 10's.  The game was decided in the 1st inning when the Sizzle jumped ahead 4-0.  Taylor Stamm pitched a solid game, walking 2 and striking out 3 in 3 innings of work.  After the 1st inning she bared down and kept the Heat in the game.  A defensive highlight was a double play by Meg at second, catching a line drive and doubling off the runner at 1st. Clare, who also had a solid double to right,  and Addy played a solid 3rd and short to make some good plays to record the outs as well.  Defensively, that was a good game, even though there were a couple of errors that led to runs, overall, our defense was tested, and they passed this round.  The 3rd game was vs. the Echoes Fear team.  Taylor Cooper pitched another great effort, and went the distance.  Striking out 5, walking 4 in 3 innings of work.   The Heat won the game 6-3 to end the tounrney at the Echoes home fields.  The Heat are back to practice this week in preparation of the Sizzle's Spring Thaw Round Robin Tourney this weekend.

4/14/2012:  The Heat will be playing in the Echoes Early Bird Tourney this weekend at Papio Bay....come on out and support the Heat
