2011 Runza Player of the Week Winners

Week 1

Week 1 Winner - Max Dahir

"The game was cold and small showers but that would not dampen the Sprits of the 7 and under game Ohio State Buckeyes vs. The Auburn Tigers on April 27th. Max a 7 year old always shows up to practice with a smile on his face and ready to play baseball. Max may not be the fastest guy on the team but he has hustle. Max had been struggling in his hitting but had already been awarded one game ball for his hustle on the field. Max showed up to the game that night again with a smile on his face and more energy than a 7 year old should have but it would pay off. He had three great hits two of which went in the out field. Defensively while playing first base he made 7-10 outs while playing third base for the Tigers but the play he made was one many Major Leaguers only dream of. Max had already made several force outs for the team in the prior innings but to the fans and the coaches amazement no one was ready for the next play. The bases were loaded with no outs the team was down they needed to have a stop. A big hitter for the buckeyes was up. The pitch comes across the plate the ball is hit to Max in the air who knows how high could be 5 feet or 500 hundred feet. Ohio sends their runners Max makes a play on the ball he makes the catch (one out) with the encouragement of his coach. He runs to the base tags the bag (two outs) the base runner already at home and now the runner from second runs to third and through the base Max makes the tag the umpire calls him out (out three) an unassisted three outs is recorded for Max and the Tigers to finish the inning. Now if that is not a Runza Player of the week I don't know what is!"

Week 2

Week 2 Winner - Preston Menicucci

"Preston hit 1st over the fence homerun at Andersen fields this for 8 year old select on field 4. For an 8 year old to hit the ball this far is incredible. Preston went on to go 3 for 3 with the Homerun. Preston has a great infectious attitude that spreads throughout the team. Preston is truly a team player."

Week 3

Week 3 Winner - Eli Kampbell

"Playing their third game in three days, the Blue Claws were facing the loss of their undefeated season. In the second inning, Eli hit a single that drove in a run to tie the game. Then with the game tied in the last inning, the home Blue Claws had two runners on, when Eli came to bat. He drove the ball into right field for a two RBI game winning double!"

Week 4

Week 4 Winner - Connor Dixon

"Connor loves to play baseball for the Hurricanes. He has made himself a very good player through hardwork and is a leader on our team. He is a great teammate who is always encouraging the other players to do there best. Connor has been one of our top hitters this season and this week made several key catches in a tight game to lead us to a victory. Connor is a good student and a great big brother. Connor is very deserving to be the Runza Player of the week not only becaause he is a very good baseball player but a good overall kid. Connor does everything that his coaches ask of him without question. We are extremely proud to have Connor on our team and we feel he is what MAA Baseball is all about."
